Structural analysis of TiO2 and TiO2-Ag thin films and their antibacterial behaviors

TiO2 attracts many researchers due to its interesting properties that include chemical stability, good optical transparency, high refractive-index, etc. Moreover, TiO2 by far is the most popular photocatalytic material. Therefore, it can be used as an optical coating [1] as well as a good photocatalyst [2]. Unfortunately, TiO2, although is an inexpensive and stable photocatalyst, the wide band gap nature makes the material only works under UV light irradiation. Hence, the development of highly efficient TiO2-based photocatalysts is still a much interesting topic.

Impact of a Novel Antimicrobial Surface Coating on Health Care–Associated Infections and Environmental Bioburden at 2 Urban Hospitals

Key Messages:

  1. Proper training of cleaning personnel and rigorous oversight and strict enforcement of cleaning routine can improve the overall cleanliness and decrease bacterial load in the ward environment.

  2. The multilevel antimicrobial disinfectant coating achieves consistently low bacterial load in the ward environment independent of the cleaning regimen.

  3. The number of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRO)-positive environmental samples between two cleaning regimens does not differ significantly owing to the rapid surface reacquisition of MDROs.

  4. The occurrence of MDROs in the environmental Multilevel antimicrobial disinfectant coating in reducing the viability of multidrug-resistant organisms in the hospital environment.
